Our History
Spanning three generations
First Generation
George Dimitriadis came to the United States from Greece in 1932 and began working in a New York City fur factory as a sweep boy, where he first learned the craft of fur workmanship. While living in New York, he met his wife Mary, a skilled seamstress. The two married in their early 20s before relocating to Pennsylvania, where they opened George’s Furs in Bethlehem in 1955. After moving locations over the years, the business eventually settled permanently on MacArthur Road.
Second Generation
Their son John continued the family tradition after beginning in the fur industry at a young age alongside his father. By the age of 20, John opened Vogue Furs in Hazleton, Pennsylvania. After marrying Georgia in 1969, the family continued operating both businesses together. Following George’s passing, Mary, John, and Georgia continued the family business and established Allentown as the best location to continue serving the Lehigh Valley community.
Third Generation
The third generation of George’s Furs continues today with George Dimitriadis, named after his grandfather. Having grown up around the family business and the fur industry his entire life, George proudly continues the family tradition and has been working alongside his family for the past 15 years.
